1982 JD Liquifire parts

Hi, I'm trying to rid myself of some John Deere Liquifire parts from a 1982 model I'm strippin'. Odometer reads 1,300 miles. I'm selling the track, suspension, driven clutch, gear box, and track driver. Go to ebay and type "liquifire." Lot's of other stuff for sale too!

Thanks, Dave

440 Motor

No, in 1976 Cat switched from Kawasaki engines to Suzuki. Until 1978/79 John Deere used CCW and Kioritz engines. Then, they switched to "new" generation Kawasaki engines. They are very different than the old Kawasaki engines used by Cat until the 1975 year.

good luck! Dave

torn track uhhhhh!

Yes, taking the front drive shaft out is a real chore! First, you've got to drain the oil out of the chain case and clean it up good. then, you need to disassemble the flange holding the drove shaft (and bearing) in there. You also get to do the same on the other side; if memory serves three nuts an...

Terry Hoffman allegedely was running a chop shop and stole something like $200,000 worth of cars, snowmobiles, machines, and boats. He's the current VSCA editor/publisher, but I don't know what this means; VSCA has been run by a bunch of other guys over the years. Is it possible VSCA could be resurr...

will it fit

Why not buy a new driver and suspension for it? I mean, the track should fit the general dimensions of the tunnel. Driver and suspension shouldn't be that expenses (from a junk shop).

Good luck! Dave

Need help with an ailing '80 Liquifire

I don't mean to scare you but check the crankseals. They're often the culprit. On the clutch side you can test it by spraying ether along the bearing while it runs. If the idle speeds up you've got an air leak. Be careful! Dave

srx is being slugish

1980 SRX - A really tough sled to run fast & reliable. Those who did it knew a lot more than most of us. From that vintage my favorite was the El Tigre 5000 FA. Lightweight, simple, and almost idiot proof (in otherwords, even I couldn't kill it). The best part about the FA Cat is that it was a virtu...

Squirrel in the LiquiFire.

Weird! Squirrels did that to my Liquifire too! I bet you're runnin' without the airbox (never seen one run with the airbox). Seems the squirrels "sense" those big Mikunis would make a good storehouse for nuts. Maqybe that's why JD quit making sleds?!

gpx vrs eltigre z

Those Kawasaki 440Z cranks are worth their weight in gold! That 440Z was a monster. It put out lots of power, and, if you tossed the hex and used a comet (100 at first then went to the "new" 102C) they would become an honest tripple-digit top end sled! Wish we could go back to those days of fast sle...
