If you only had 3K for a used sled what kind would you get?

My wife was not too excited about me getting a new sled. Basically she said no but that is ok because I was just setting her up to get a used one anyway. Oh the games we must play. Anyway, I was kind of looking at the AC ZR500 or the Doo 500MXZ.

I ride fields, mild woods not too many curves and old converted RR tracks. I like:
acceleration
not worried about top-end
a nice ride not too stiff
once in a while I will ride bumps aggresively
I kind of like a liter sled but not mandatory.

Any ideas guys?

Remember I only have about $3,000 to spend.

I believe you're looking at the right kind of sleds. Being a Polaris type, I'd add the XC's to your list. Would also suggest that with carefull shopping you should be able to look at some 600s on your budget also...

FYI: i just sold a 99 mxz 600 for $3,100 in cherry condition. but it had 4,600 miles. it was very clean though, so you should be able to pick up a zr600 or mxz600 for around that price. i like the xc too, but only in the edge chassis, and i think they only started that chassis in 2001, so you probably wouldn't be able to find one in your price range. i'm sure you'll find a nice sled though. good luck, and let us know what you end up getting.

You should have bought my 97 MXZ670! I sold it for $2500....They are great sleds and you won't break your budget!

Irolledit, If a 500 is good, a 600 is better. 1999 XC600SP excellent condition, $2,500 incl. cover. Have a blast either way!

you might be able to find a brand new 01 or 02 440 for about 3000, I'm not sure how much more a 500 would cost. I'd check into that before spending lots of cash on something with lots of miles on it. Just my .02

I would buy a used race sled, from a good racer. plenty of acceleration and well maintained.

where are you located? I have a 97 ZR580 I'm thinking about selling. Just had a ton of work done so it's in prime running condition. The sleds near killington, vt.

No doubt you're considering your wife's experience and ability on sleds? I had a 340 delux
Puma that took over 4000 miles of abuse with not
one problem....top speed around 55 mph nice and light- in fact when by sales associates rode it the guys ripped over moguls while I lumbered behind with my heavy old 94 ZR...maybe she 's find the ZL more user friendly some local ads:

1998 POlaris 600XC reverse/studs $3200
1995 Puma excellent $1700
