2000 ZR600 starts hard, is that normal?

I boutht a 2000 ZR600 this fall and haven't really gotten to ride it yet. When it was warm outside, it would fire up in one or two pulls, but now, when it's cold outside, it sometimes takes me 5-10 minutes to get the darn thing to start! It's the carb model by the way! It has new spark plugs in it. The gas in it is from last winter and I have no idea if the person who I bought it from put any kind of fuel stabilizer in it, I don't know if that would make a difference anyway. I just know it's a popular sled and wondered if anyone had any hints for getting it to fire up quickly! Thanks a lot!

Iwould start with getting rid of the old gas, then have the carbs cleaned & synchronized. Then bump up the idle a bit, and see what happens from there.

Put fresh gas in it, take it out and warm it up for a couple of miles, then thrash it too get all the unburnt oil out of the block from running it all fall,
