MXZ 800...is it a good sled?

Postby indy8six » October 5th, 2003, 10:05 am

I just purchased a 2001 Mxz 800 with 1500 miles on it. It has V-Force reeds and a clutch kit.
I was wondering if this is a dependable sled? Any info on performance and reliability from you would be appreciated.

I don't know a whole lot about that certain sled. I think it was the 02' 800 that had problems with rings etc...but i don't know about the 01' model. you could probably find some info and all recalls ever done on that model on dootalk.com, they have a section for recalls.
Don't worry the trees don't hurt that bad.

Engine recalls on the '01 for sure. Make sure they're done or she could blow.

As long as your 800 has had the motor and cooling system update done, you'll be fine. Ask who ever you bought it from, they should have already had it done. The problem was with the pistons themselves on the '01's. It was a problem with the clearence tolerences. Most of them were o.k. but, all built before a certain date were re-called by Bombardier just to be sure that they were the right ones in them. My was fine, I was kind of pissed when I found out they were recalled 'cause my was running awesome. It still does today. I have 4200 some odd miles on mine and the only problem I've had is the re-coil. I replaced 2 of them. The new ones have an aluminum center insted of plastic in the old ones which sometimes melted from the exhaust heat. I don't care what people say about how slow the MXZ800 is and that the XC600 beats it. It's B.S. I've raced and crushed many of them among other things. Overall, I think you'll be happy I know I am! Hope I helped Bro! Think Snow!

Oh really SUPERDUTY.....didn't think I was listening did you. I seem to recall 2 or 3 races that my Prox6 beat your 800. I would think you would remember that since I knew you were pissed afterwards because you never said a word about it. I would say you beat me 50 % of the time. That either means your sleds slow or mines really fast, since I'm riding a Polaris I'll say mines just fast. Hey ya enjoying my SLP catalog.....dick! See ya later ya f$%k!

I have a 2001 renegade 800 and yes, they did have a recall on the upper end, I believe the pistons were replaced in mine, but it's had 1400 trouble free miles since. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?

How was it maintained? VERY important that they are put to sleep in the summer correctly. LOTS of bad things can happen in the carbs and crank bearings if these procedures are bypassed.
