600 HO / 600 & 800 SDI Ski-Doo Engines

Postby SnowwmaxSteve » November 18th, 2003, 2:45 am

Hi All,

I am looking to get a MXZ 600 SDI Adrenaline but have heard a few nasty rumors about the Ski-doo enginess blowing rings after a mere 500 miles or so..

What are the experiences / facts about this issue?

Thanks!

I have heard they have had some problems but don't know specifics - if the guys on here can't help ya - try http://www.dootalk.com/
Recently I was asked to play in a golf tournament.

At first I said, "Naw, I haven't been playing that well."

Then they said to me, "Come on, it's for handicapped and blind kids."

Then I thought...

Chit, I could win this!

A friend of mine had a 2003 MXZ Rev 600ho X and a 2003 MXZ REV 800 Adrenaline. Between him & myself, there was 12,000 miles on the 600, and 11,000 miles on the 800. Not one single problem. Both were studded, the 600 had a HPS silencer on it, and both had clutch kits. He changed the hyfax once, broke a precision ski once (they replaced it under warranty). Never one single other issue, and he's pretty hard on things (roasted 2 motors last year in his '02 SRX, twisted the chassis, bent trailing arms a few times....)

He tested compression about every 1000 miles, one stayed dead even, the other lost 2 psi. Never had a ring flaking problem.

He traded them both in for a '04 Renegade 600ho SDI, and a '03 440 Rev Racer.

I know a bunch of people have issues, but how many REV's did they sell last year? I would love to know the percentages of people w/ problems vs. those without an issue. Talking with a few guys that were dealers, they said they had very few of them with ring flaking problems in relation to the amount of REVs that they sold.

Of course it could just be an issue that most people don't check their compression very often or look at their cylinders, in which case, I stand corrected.

I just think that people are blowing this whole thing out of proportion. But, I wouldn't think about buying a REV (or ANY sled for that matter) without doing a compression test.

I regularly check dootalk, too.
