How thick is the Ice near you?

Just wondering how thick is the ice on a lake nearest everybody? Im just off Chemong lake in Ontario and it's pushin 5-6 inches now with just a skim of snow on it. This weekend will separate the boys from the men or the swimmers from the sinkers.

I heard through the grapevine that a guy just fell through at the Turtle Flambeau Flowage(in N. Wi) and died.
Big snow early on lakes sucks without having a good "solid" 12"+ of ice first. It not only keeps the ice from forming fast as it should it makes for a slushy ride in January and a bumpy ride come Feb & March.
Here in S. Wi. we don't have enough to even talk about yet for the most part.

It never seems to amaze me how many people jump the gun on the lakes. Hopefully it's the last for this year.Im hoping it doesn't snow for about another week with all the cold weather coming through it will make for a far better season in the long run.

I was out on our pond tonight and it seems good gonna see how deep it is tomorrow but it was cracking when I was near the cat tails, I guess all Cats make noise right:)

Whats that? Haven't had ice in three years!! Its a big reason lake (Michigan) levels are three feet down, evaporation!! I think it all turns to snow and goes to the east! At least someone has it. Miss going fast,flat.

Gonna find out tomorrow. Going up to our water access cottage on Georgian Bay. Leaving the sled at home. Taking the scoot out (boat with airplane engine, go through water, on ice or snow). Supposedley everything is frozen & the lighter scoots aren't breaking through!! Very good sign!! We're about 3 - 4 miles out in the islands. If it stays cold we should be able to sled there by the following weekend!! Very good sign!!

It's also supposed to go down around -24 celsius for Monday night in cottage country. Hopefully little snow untill after, that'll make d**n good ice!!!!

It was 14 inches thick here a week ago. 9 of it the real nice blue ice, solid. It's the best freeze up here in many years, might be able to sled til june lol.

We've had a good cold spell for some time now so the ice ought to be getting thick round here. Heck, its been so dang cold it hasn't been able to snow yet. But if that frost gets any deeper it will make up for it I suppose. :p

December. No snow. How sad. I hope the mountains are getting a good dump back home!
