97' Ski-Doo Summit 583

Hello, a friend of mine has a Summit 583 he's considering selling, the price will be something like 3-4k $ ( which is a pretty good price here in Norway ). Just wondering, any opinions on this sled ? It will be used for mostly off-trail sledding, but there ain't much powder snow where I drive. The snow is sometimes pretty demanding, so I'll need some traction, but I do not need 2inch lugs. The Summit 583 features something like 1.5inch lugs ( dunno exactly, but 36,8mm ) and a 136inch track, which sounds just about right for the enviroment I'll be riding. What I am really wondering about, is how this engine performs. What hp / torque it has, etc. And, the possibilities for tuning. I wouldn't call myself a complete newbie, I've ridden for 2-3 seasons with my dads Bear Cat ( which by the way totally owns :p ) so I was thinking, the 583cc engine would probably do for the time being.

Roughly 100hp as the Summit has 38mm carbs

Ther was an update on the carb calibrations on the 97 583s with 38mm to help with fuel consumption in SnowTech

I see, not bad. Will run a "little" faster than the Bear Cat with it's enormous weight, and 80hp.

You will be able to walk all over the Bear Cat in every chance except maybe for towing. Other than that you have every advantage available!

Yeah, I know. But MAN the Bear Cat owns at towing ****. It's totally sick :)

Any other interesting info / experiences / comments that has to do with the Summit 583 ?
