What year? I get a lot of Festivas at work that have some major problems, But they were mostly the first Festiva model. Significant improvements in the engine, and suspension made them a very reliable compact. Got one old lady that comes in monthly for me to check her entire car over for her. She has 185K on it, doesn't buurn a lick of oil, never been on the lift for anything more than an inspection sticker. Some of them have serious issues as well though. As a compact t hings like Trans. is built super light duty.Check that the shifting lever has little to no slop in it when in gear, and that clutch feels good. (If automatic listen for niose coming from bell housing). The most important thing to check on any used car is the oil. That will tell you almost everything about how the previous owner treated the car. Look for things like dark, frothy oil. White crystals indicate moisture present. Low oil level probably means the owner didn't really give a damn. If the oils looks clean, no foam, froth, or crystals. And level is full it is a good indication that the car was serviced regularly. Lots of other things to look for too, if you have any questions let me know. I am amechanic, and like to help when I can.
