Here is the story....(some stupid Hmong with an SKS)
A deer hunter shot-and-killed five people and wounded three others
yesterday, when he was confronted about being in someone else's tree
stand in Sawyer County near Exeland. It happened around noon, and
the alleged shooter - 36-year-old Chai Vang of Saint Paul - was
arrested four hours later. All those killed - three men, a teenage
boy, and one of the men's daughters - are from Rice Lake. Their
names were not immediately released, but Sawyer County Chief Deputy
Tim Zeigle says they're well-known in the community. Another man was
in critical condition at last word at a Marshfield hospital.
55-year-old Danny Drew of Rice Lake was in serious condition at a
Rice Lake hospital, and Lauren Hesebeck - a man whose age and address
were not released - was in fair condition. Zeigle said the incident
occurred when a hunting party saw Vang in the tree stand they built.
That led a confrontation, and Vang shot at least one group member
with an S-K-S semi-automatic rifle - one not normally used for deer
hunting. One victim used a radio for help. And when other hunting
partners came by, they were shot, too. Zeigle said they scattered,
and tried to run from Vang, who was said to pursue them like a
sniper. The dead hunters were found scattered across a-hundred
yards, while the three who survived managed to get to safety. All
five were dead when officers arrived. Wardens called off hunting at
that point, and used loud-speakers to tell people to get out of the
woods. Vang apparently got lost later on, and two hunters who didn't
know about the incident helped him out of the woods. Authorities
recognized Vang's back-tag number and took him into custody. One of
the victims wrote it down. The State Crime Lab and the F-B-I are due
at the scene today.
