I'm looking at picking up a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge. I know a guy who has one that I can get a steal on it. I figure I'll drive it a little bit the next couple of years and give it to my son. Only one problem, it runs and drives great until about 70 mph. After that it feels like it will shake you out of the truck. A really bad vibration. Any suggestions?

Eliminate the drive line running out.....How ?
Lift the back wheels off the floor and have another person spin the rear wheels to the speed you get the vibration at. Watch the drive line to see if it is running true. If it is running out, check the U-Joints. If one of the wheels is way out of balance, it will show up also.
You will have to spin the front wheels to check them.

2wd or 4wd?
Was it in a wreck at some point? There might be a reason it's a steal.
Not in any particular order:
-Broken radial cord inside your tire(can't see it).
-Lost a balancing weight off the driveshaft.
-U-joint(s).
-Brake issues?
-Ball joints/tie rod ends/steering link.
-Ring & pinion gear problem(doubt it).
-Tires out of balance.

A friend of mine just bought that truck a few weeks ago as a; shootin' around town/to the dump, good fuel milage truck. He also has a full size Dodge 4x4 and 2 "regular" cars.
Has a 3.0L v6, automatic, supercab, 2wd, 60,000, XLT... was an old guys truck, he bought it for $6800. Talked to him last nite, he LOVES IT!

Thanks Whacker. My first thoughts were u-joints or alignment but I'm lookin for other opinions. I can get a hell of a deal on this truck and I'm kind of skeptical about why he's selling so cheap. I think he just needs the money but I don't want to get into anything that I can't fix myself or is going to cost me thousands

It's 4wd Riggs. I can pick this one up for around 6000.. It's mint inside and out. He also said he bought it brand new and it's never been wrecked. That's what he said anyway. It could be anyone of those issues Riggs so I think I'm going to tellhim I want to pick it up this afternoon for a couple of hours and take it to the dealer. I think for a few bucks they can at least tell me what the problem is.

Pretty much what Riggs said. Sounds like a tire more than anything. What engine does it have? The 3.0 is a pig, terrible MPG and no power. The 4.0 is an excellent motor. Better MPG and plenty of torque.
