Need advice from da leafspring generation

My friends and I have drawn up da rules for our ice oval racing next year. No quads next year, just sleds, and the only rule is that they must be leaf sprung. What's something that was fast back in the day, but not a high dollar collector's item today, and can maybe be had for under 5 benjamin's? Sno-twister's are bad, but lotta $$$. Saw a 79 poo txl 340 that was pretty ruff, but says it ran well, $400obo

Any 70's 440 Panther or Rupp models should fit your bill............

The TX-L was one of the best. You need to stay with the liquid cooled sleds. Yam SRXs, Artic Cat Zs, Polaris TX-Ls, Rupp Nitros, Sno-Twisters, Ski Doo TNTs, and many others. The problem is, all the old race sleds are the ones that are the highest priced sleds. You might want to consider making a rule that only one cylinder sleds be used. There are alot of them around and can be had for alot less money.

If ya go one bangers, there is a 292 Yam fer $275 in the paper. (I think that was a single lunger) One of Roy's workers has an early 70's El Tigre. (twin)

Anything with a motor is too fast for the leafski's. You old bazturds were nuts.

Buy the TXL, people think a 340 can't possibly be fast. You'll be glad you bought it.

Thee ole Merc sno-twisters would haul ass! jus sayin! Those liquid Polars were fast too. Ah hell........there were a lot of fast sleds back in da day.

Any Doo or Moto Ski RV chassis sled was a very capable racer off the floor. True Dat Rat. Remember when 440's were the "Big Iron?"
