Long story short as I can. They brought me in there to kick azz on the crew that was already there. They (corporate) told me they were a bunch of lazy slouches and I should bust some heads and get them moving. I did that for about a year and accomplished nothing but create animosity between the grounds crew and the office. So I became their buddy instead (like I wanted to in the 1st place) and that got things done 10 fold! "Ask" them to do something instead of "tell" them to do something goes a long way with people.
This is family run business and they are VERY fickle w/ their money. I did twice as much with half as much as most and I was asked to do even more. The owner is a 29yr old girl w/ a BMW. Her husband drives an Escalade and the newest tractor in the place is 1955. We barely keep the equipment running day to day. They treat my guys like sh!t: one guy was there 33 yrs and they asked him to leave 2 months b4 his retirement (no party, no thank yous, no card, NOTHING!)out the door you go. Have you ever seen a 61yr old man cry? NOW there's another guy that has been there 47yrs, they told him to leave b4 Dec., 17months b4 he can collect full benefits. Nice,eh? Would you ask 2 guys with that much time into one place to "just leave, NOW!"? I took offence to it.
I started fighting for the guys and the equipment a little too much and I became "unsatisfied" with my position. And I was asked to do some things that I had no business doing. So I turned in my keys at 9:30 this morning. And I am a much happier person because of it. Mean people suck! I could go on & on & on.
I'll be a stay @ home dad(mama makes the money here)... maybe get a part time job @ Home Depot or something and sleep much better at night. No big deal.
BTW, almost half the crew left after I did today.
