R.A.V.E. Valves for 96 Formula SLS?

Postby Form SLS » November 16th, 2001, 11:05 am

Hi!, I was wondering how much work it would be to put rave valves on my '96 Ski-Doo Formula SLS? How much would it cost to have someone do it for me? Has anyone out there that also owns one of these sleds done this? I really like this sled, and I am thinking about removing the old steel skis and putting on some Simmons Flexi-Ski Plastic skis also. Anyone have these skis? How do you like 'em? Thanks for any help you can offer!

About the plastic skies. Anything is better than metal. In turns of putting rave valves in. I really wouldn't be bothered. Nor do i think it can be done. That motor aint that much slower than the Rave rotary valve 500 motor anyways.

It should be able to be done, because the proper machining on my block is right there. They (SKI-DOO) must have added that as an option in case the owner wanted to add RAVE. If it adds more bottom end power and acceleration, top speed, and fuel economy, why not put them on?

"They (SKI-DOO) must have added that as an option in case the owner wanted to add RAVE."

No they didn't..

They made the caseing like that because they new in the future they were gonna add Rave...ie '98 mxz 500, formula 500.

500 rotary valve motor w/ rave makes.....90hp
your motor makes.......84hp

I just think it would be costly...

you can't put raves on ANY fan rotax, they were NOT desighned to take them.84hp from a 503 fan? LIKE HELL!! keep up to a liquid 500 NO WAY! s**t ry get your facts straight.Form sls just live with the 503 leaf blower if the fan belt stays in one piece the 503 will last a long time, mess with it and she'll toss faster than you can say "s**t i should have left well enough alone"
I'm not fast, your just slow.

I had a 97 Form 500 which shared the same engine as the 96. It was very quick! I wonder if the jugs of a 583 would fit? Call a salvage yard they might be able to tell you. However, I was not impressed with the 500 with ex-valves, otherwise you could probably swap the jugs with a 98 Form 5.

it is possible to bored it out, or re-sleeve the cylinder for one that has the rave port in it. ive also ridden a formula sls and it beats '98,'99 mxz 500's. i dont know what it is but the '96 formula sls was the quickest 500 rotary valve rotax.
