Wanted: 95-96 XCR 440 piston

Postby snoracer25 » December 20th, 2012, 4:51 am

A customer of mine recently bought a 96 XCR 440 with a blown piston for his son to ride. He came in to order a piston and I see they are discontinued from Polaris. Does anyone have a new or good used one on the shelf yet from back in the day? Its part # 3085045. Doesnt have to have rings, I can still get those from polaris. Thanks for any help, you would make the kids day.

Neal,
Unless you gotta have an OEM slug, Hi Performance offers those in SPI or Wiseco.

Would like to stay OEM so I have a balanced assembly as the Mag side is great and only have to replace one, but may have to go with a Wiseco kit if nothing turns up. Thanks for the replys

SPI,Kimpex, and Parts Unlimited are all identical and supposedly exact OEM replacement. and the are only around $50. You are going to have the mono block jugs off anyway may as well do both.

Have you ever weighed them Bobby? You might be surprised with what you find! Suffice it to say they are NOT exact replacements in all cases. I used them on a motor I rebuilt last year and the 2 pistons (Parts Unlimited) were quite a bit heavier than the stock pistons were. More than 10% different

no I guess I haven't, I guess my point was, if you're that far into it may as well do them both.

lol. Been there done that. The last Parts Unlimited piston I ordered only had one ring pin locator in it and Ive had plenty that were way out of spec. Wiseco doesnt not make one. This piston has a common bore and stroke but an odd dome shape. Havent had any luck finding an OEM one. Put the part # on the Polaris locator and did a ADP lightspeed check and there isnt one left at a dealer in the US. I just got in a nice XC 500 that I traded him for today. Looks like I own it now. Ill race it at a couple local enduro lemans type races. Ordered 4 Parts Unlimited pistons today and hopefully two match. Thanks for the input guys. Anyone race one of these back in the day and have a any clutch setups? Just dont have time to go testing anymore!!
