80-85 mph

Good sled if well taken care of.

If you ask me, one of the best sleds Polaris has ever made. Way light compared to todays sleds. Like this one guy posted after his main ride went down and he had to borrow his friends 400, I won't be the first one there but I won't be the last one either. Top speed if tuned- up good,80-80plus on a good cold day on the lake.

Does your Dad know you bought a Polaris? I thought he was an Arctic Cat fan!
Oil would be cheaper if the greenies stopped using it.

i have a 89 indy 500, i have not had any problems with mine and it has just under 10,000 Miles on it. make sure your rope that starts the moter is not rubbing on the brake like mine is, i need to find a fix for that problem.

i have had mine to 85-90 MPH. it will get to 80 any day of the week.

The 85 was a good sled, we had a 86 and 87. The 86 always took 2nd in radar runs at 82 to 83mph on short run maybe 660 ft? the 87 I punched out to 440 and got about as much performance as a good 500 but man it was loud. Neither one ever failed and they are still going today. Relatives have them. They made me a believer in Polaris

The 400 put out alot of horse for it's size and it's light. Make sure your clutches are in good shape and you shoudn't have a prob.
