sudden loss of power... please help

Postby little sledhead » January 31st, 2004, 4:45 pm

i was cruising along fine... and after about 90 miles of riding, the engine just bogged. i hit an open field and punched it and at about 5000 rpm it just baaahhhhed. i changed the belt and no difference, although the one i put on was used but good. it seems as though maybe it's a clutching problem but a few times (very few)the rest of the way home it seemed fine. it had absolutely no power pulling hills but it was fine to about 5000 rpm. also i'm wondering if this is common symptom if the raves need cleaned? one last thing is i've periodically had an issue with the idle creeping up to about 3000 rpm and not coming back down. i've checked for air leaks and nothing. also today when it bogged the idle was high but the plugs also looked fine. any ideas??? thanx!

was it overheating at all? did you ingest some snow into the carbs?

we were riding in alot of loose powder and i was second back plus breaking trails so yes some snow dust could have got in. but it didn't appear obvious. and the temp light never came on.

might justve gotten some snow which melted to water into the fuel system. try some isyproal dry gas. that should take care of it.
