What is the obsession with sounding cool?!

Postby ZiRT » September 11th, 2004, 2:52 pm

This board must be full of teenagers 'cause anybody that has been around more than a few years knows aftermarket cans don't do squat for power, and even lose power in many cases, but everybody wants to sound cool. Grow up guys, Get a clue already. The non-sledding public has a lot of ammo against us, we don't need to give them more. There are a lot of people out there who bust their a$$es trying to keep landowners happy and keep trails open so we can ride, but everytime they turn around somebody is putting a fart bomb on their sled and pi$$ing the landowners off. Top that with the enviro-wackos who are just dooling over any little issue they can exploit to ELIMINATE snowmobiling altogether....QUIT HELPING THEM!!
The coolest thing in the world is to blow your buddies away on a sled that sounds like it isn't even running! They pull up behind you at the finish and go, "What have you got in that thing?!?! It sounds like a 440!"

Nice post, but this really should be on the TRASHER SIDE, that way u could have some great replys.
I know my stock can made more power then HTG silencer, but had to have hole drilled in end of it to flow more air.

Quiet and dangerous

My 98 Thundercat with stock exhaust was insanely loud and I don't think my eardrums could take another year of that racket. I'm glad my 05 ZR is quiet.

Congrats on the new 900 there ThunderStruck. I think yer gonna love that over that heavy beast you've been riding. I'am thinkin real seriously about getting something else besides my ZRT-800, but just can't make up my mind what to get. Might try the new technology with less hp just to see how they ride. What do ya think Whacker, should I get an F-Cat??

Thanks LTCM, I'm gonna miss the sled but not the noise. If it didn't have 10,000+ miles I'd keep it another one or two years.

I tried to get a feel for the Firecat last winter, it wasn't for me and I couldn't get off that thing fast enough, so I ordered the closest thing to my T-cat as I could get..... The obsolete big bore 900.

I think there annoying if your driving the thing all day.
But "hey" you got a tough looking sled you need somethin to get people to take a good look, and a can does that, they know your coming from a mile away.

ZiRT, I couldnt agree with you more! I try to persuade guys all the time when I see them asking, "whats the best aftermarket can?" but some times its like talking to a wall. I cant figure out whats so hard to understand?!! Theyre bad for our sport, PERIOD. Yet every year, more guys are running out to get one. Two hundred bucks, just pissed away, and for what? If you think it makes you cool, Ive got news for ya. It makes you a Jackass!
