Only 600cc and 800cc performance sleds make sense

Postby FreezurBurnt » October 18th, 2002, 8:31 am

Why don't manufactures pay more attention to make less sled sizes?

Why can't they just make a 600cc sled then jump to 800cc

Look at the 700s if you go for a 700 why not go for an 800 for just a couple hundred more$$$ or a 600 for a couple hundred less$$$

The 100cc jump is just too small of a performance gain

Why not make it 200cc,then the performance gain is noticable

Look at Bikes you no longer see 750 crotch bikes(suzuki exception)yet they have 600cc and 1000s

Doo did the smart thing by offering the Rev in the 600 and 800cc versions (just like the Renegades:))and decided not to offer the 700cc versions

Smart move in my book:)

Cat should of done the same with the Fcats

They would have sold more F6s and F8s

How many Cat guys wanted a F6 vs F5,

F7 is a great sled but why not a F8

Did cat miss the boat on the cc size?

Just Like Poo why not just a ProX 6 and ProX 8

There really is no justification for someone to buy a 700,point being if you can afford a 700 you can afford an 800 or just get a 600

the price dif and performance is just not there to justify a 100cc diference

Only 600cc and 800cc performance sleds make sense

340-370-380-400-440-500-550-600-700-800-1000.
I'm sure I missed a few.
I would think that if I was to get a larger C.C. engine I wouldn't make a 100 C.C. jump. But what if I started with a 500 C.C.?

Freeze, Cat has the 500 and 700. The 500 was is the 440 bottom end. My guess is the F6 will have the 700 bottom end. I think what you are talking about is part of the reason that Cat went with the 5 and 7 instead of the 6 and 8. They made the 5 with ease. The 7 was the next one that fits (200 cc gap). Plus Cat seen that 700s do sell good and it was a market they didn't have anything for. I really don't expect to see a 900 in the FC chassis.

I agree Freeze. The performance is too close and guys that can tune ,can make a 500 beat a 600.
Look at the polaris ATV's. New this year, a 600 sportsman. Now they have a 400, 500, 600, and 700. WHY?
Sleds
Polaris-340, 440, 500, 550, 600, 660, 700, 800
Cat-340, 440, 500, 660, 700, 800, 900
Doo-340, 440, 500, 600, 700, 800, 1000
Yamaha-540, 600, 700, 1000

Only 600cc and 800cc performance sleds make sense

I'm sure that is something the industry is going to iron out within the next 5-6 years.

500s will always be around, IMHO. If they aren't just cheap easy rides, then it'll be for Snowcross. Take the F5 for example, same engine as in snowcross, bored out a bit and tuned for consumers. Economic sense there.

600 will be around for a good while too. They provide a great balance of weight and power, especially for easy riding or people new to the sport.

700s may go. Might stay too. It'll depend if the 900s take off IMO. Cuz if the 900s come and take over, I would expect the 800s to go. If the 8's were to go, there would be a nasty hole left without the 700.

But, we'll see. I personally think 5, 7, 9 would be the ideal route.

That might be a problem for Cat in the near future if they do not make a 6 or 8 Fcat

Say if Doo and Poo make great 600 and 800s
,then Cat would lose out

The 700cc segement is a lost one

Imagine if they only concentrated on a 600 and 800,they would be more R&D put into the sleds

I resemble that.
Oops, I mean, I resent that Freeze.
When I bought my 700 MXZ, it was the first year of the 800 twin. Wanted to see it run a year or so befor jumping into one.
Maybe I'm just getting older and wiser, but I think the 700 is quick enough for me anyhow.
To each his own I say.

Only 600cc and 800cc performance sleds make sense

Postby NHSledATVrider » October 18th, 2002, 2:08 pm

Well you could also say that why dont the 600cc owners buy the 700cc.. Its only a few 100$$$more .... If you start that game then the people with the 440's buy the 500... but o wait.. the 6 is only a few more $.. but wait again the 7.. and on and on till your up the buying the 900... It cant be worse for the buyers if they have more sleds to choose from.. It might be a smart idea to jump 200cc's but look what polaris and skidoo does. You just got to make a sled for every pocket, and power crave a person might have.

And yamaha.. How many sleds do they have???? That might be the reason why there the minority out on the trails.
