F5's slow in snow?

Postby Big Native » November 22nd, 2002, 1:29 pm

I know a guy north of here who bought two F5's to race this year. In 2 inches of powder the best top speed out of both of them, he only hit 93mph? No he's not a fat ass either and bleeds green so he know's how to set up his sleds. How dissapointing for him. MAybe he just got 2 bad (slow) ones? What you guys think?

Well, tell him have fun with those pieces of chit, just don't go in the snow with them. Leave that for the real sleds.

Could be a lot of factors effecting the top speed. Temp, humidity, wet snow, dry snow, maybe the skis aren't aligned, could be a lot of things. I'd wait to pass judgement until he ran the sleds for a while longer. Seems like they should do pretty well.

2 inches of snow on top of what? Ice, dirt, packed snow? Fresh powder will always slow a sled down compared to hard pack.

How come the first thing all you bone-heads do with a new sled is go to a field/lake jam the gas and complain about how slow your sled is? You have to break in the engine first!

I think that this is the way that the factory set the gearing for a purpose built sled. I bet it gets their in a heartbeat. Where i ride 93 will get you in the white oaks in a hurry.
