Just found out that the RX-1 will be allowed to enter the I-500 race on Feb. 1 in Sault Ste. Marie. This is big news because normally the cc limit is 600 for this race. It is an endurance race of 500 miles on a 1 mile oval track. The RX-1 will be subject to mandatory gearing changes according to a friend of mine who owns a team that runs there every year. It will be very interesting during time trials week to see how many teams show up with a RX-1 and whether or not they can make it handle well enough to come into a corner at about 75 mph and stick to the ice. Usually a sled has to average around 87 mph to qualify for this race. Pole sitter is usually in the low to mid 90 mph range. Anyone else going to the race? Should be a fun race to watch this year.

More than likely Bandit, they'll ban it from the carnage they create when they blow through the first turn into the crowd!! lol :)
Yes the RX-1 can run at the Soo, and they should be amongst the fastest sleds on the straights, whether they will corner will tell the tale.
Anyway you slice it, the RX-1 has a tall motor, getting the CG down where it won't hurt will be a challenge.

Hardly big news, Zert, ISR announced the RX-1 would be legal for the I-500 back at the Milwaukee snow show. The RX-1 is legal for all 600-class racing, except drags.

Snow Week knows of at least two racers running the Yamaha. One is Gordy Postula of J & M Racing. He was co-driver last year with 9th place finisher Ray Kowalski on a SRX 600. The other on is Defending Champion Mike Gentz. He said he feels good about the sled's chaces in a race like the Soo.

We have details in the next issue of Snow Week's Holeshots section.

Max,

I'd be interested in hearing what you've done to the sled in terms of setup? I've also got some info you might find interesting.

E-mail me off the board...

Skunk, there's more to building a enduro sled than just having lot's of potential HP.
We are learning that the REV chassis needs lot's of love to work well, it's kinda the reason we may not make the Lincoln race.
That RX chassis is kinda the same deal, nobody knows what will work or what won't.
It's trial and error right now for us, I hope we find the right combo tommorrow.
