I'm lookin' to get my son a 4 wheeler this coming season.

I have it narrowed down to 2:
Honda Sportrax 90
OR
Yamaha Raptor 80
When comparing the specs the Honda seems to come out ahead in:
H 86cc vs Y 79cc
H 4 spd vs Y 3 spd
H 2.6" of travel vs Y 2.2" travel
H dual sealed frt drums vs Y single
H chain drive vs Y shaft drive
H larger tires
H shorter length
H wider in width
H shorter seat height
H a bit more ground clearance
H 244 lbs vs Y 243
H 1.9 gl vs Y 1.8 gl
Yammy has eletric start where as the Honda is a pull cord.
The Honda seems to have better specs but looks like a 1979 body style vs. the Raptor.
Both are $2,499
Has anyone ever any experience with either?
ArticEd do you wanna sell your(kids)Suzuki LT80 yet(cheap)?
I would look at the new Suzuki LT80 but the guys that own the shops around here say the parts are painful to wait for.

Thanks for any input-

Have you ever thought about getting a E-ton Impulse, cousin has a 90 its a nice ATV automtic if your kid can't shift but maybe you want to teach him, its a 2-stroke so its a rougher running quad but so far we have had no problems

LOL @ Salty, he's doing that NOW! I want to get him off the mower, he's wearing it out! lol
Seriously, I let him idle around in 2nd gear on the Honda 110 ATC when there's a few inches of snow on the ground to slow him down. He has proven himself to respect these machines at the age of 5, I already trust him(he's been on them since 2 yrs old and now drives me around on my 4 wheeler), he shows a lot of respect for his age; but when he's 12 I'll probably take it all away!

I remember the time when I took a 1958 18hp Evinrude outboard and put in on a 12' skiff... and leaned out the carb enough to get that thing to go about 40mph! It skipped along like a rock thrown by Nolan Ryan! I dam near died!
I did all my bad/mischievous deeds without my dad knowing(I think)because he never offered this type of fun to me. It was always too dangerous for kids.
So I'm going to give my sons' a "chance" to prove themselves worthy of that type of fun IF they can respect it(with their dad). So far so good. But grandpa still doesn’t approve of it! But the bottom line is, when my boy flips a RM or a YZ and breaks his collar bone, I'll be within spittin' distance. blah blah blah sorry i could go on & on , lol

600 ProX, I have the specs on the E-Ton also and almost pulled the trigger on one last year. You are the 3rd person that I know that said they are a good deal. I think the dealer here was selling'em for $1299 for a 90cc a couple yrs ago. Great deal for a 90cc! I was too scared to do it. But heck at that price if you get 3 yrs out of it you could toss it out and buy another one compared to the price of the others. They do have all the amenities and from what I've heard the only problem is the exhaust bracket(weld), other than that they are a great unit for the price. I may consider it.

I owned a 1995 Honda sporttrax 90 when I was 10. It was a traing atv that the honda company owned It was mint condition when I got it. My dad bought it for me and I worked it off. That thing flew. And was reliable. Go with the honda.

Riggs, how old is your son... did you consider maybee getting him a little larger of a machine that he will eventually grow into??? maybee a blaster or something small like that. If he is too small for one of that size than I think any of the small 90cc machines will fit him well.

kids who hunt, trap and fish dont mug little old ladies.

Salty, he will be 6 in June. The Blaster would kill him, it almost kills me!lol Those are fun. I thought about a 50cc but I think he would grow out of it in a year or 2? So I'm going to the 80-90cc and just tune-it-down bit 'til he can handle it. But that way he can grow into it and I don't have to buy another one in 2yrs.
And yes I know Wi. state law says no one under the age of whatever can't ride a whatever cc ATV until they are whatever age blah blah blah.
My property? MY LAWS PREVAIL!: the gospel according to RIGGS.
