You make da call

Postby kenlacy » February 11th, 2008, 9:31 am

The niece has been driving for 9 months now (in MN it is illegal for anyone under 18 to use a cell phone in a car). She comes to me yesterday asking if I'll install a Bluetooth handsfree deal in her car (she got it for Christmas from her Brother who I have now chastised). I have told her since day 1 that she is not allowed to be on the phone while driving so I am not sure why she'd even think to ask me to do this. I am not stupid, I have not seen her but I am sure she talks on her phone but that doesn't mean I approve of it. Remember, she has a 4 month old baby in the car a lot.

So now I have adults around me telling me it is safer for her to have a Bluetooth if she is gonna be on the phone. But I don't want her on the phone. Half the time she is getting and sending text messages - how is that going to be safer?

My judgement says no way and tell her to stay off the phone. Am I crazy?
Recently I was asked to play in a golf tournament.

At first I said, "Naw, I haven't been playing that well."

Then they said to me, "Come on, it's for handicapped and blind kids."

Then I thought...

No your not crazy and should continue to stand your ground on the issue. Remind her that no phone call or txt message is as important as the small passenger in back and you'd really hate to see her have a setback of getting a ticket and knowing you contributed in some manner.

I don't believe so, she wasn't with us then. Plus preggers is not illegal although it does make your insurance go way up like getting a ticket for cell phone use while drivin and under 18.

This is Pam

Well bluetooth is safer if she is going to continue to break the law. tough call there Ken. If you don't do it and she has an accident, guilt guilt guilt....if you do it and she has an accident guilt guilt guilt. If she doesn't know when and where is appropriate to use her phone, then there is a bigger issue than just the cell phone use in the car.

Or you could buy her a pay per minute phone to have with her at all times, she pays for the minutes. The regular cell phone stays in su casa except when she isn't going to be at the wheel of a car.

OR You must get the phone bill....check her minutes and see when she is using them. You should know approximately when she is in her car. Check the minutes regularly and keep tabs on her, bad part about that I don't know if you can check text minutes.

Sounds to me like she still needs a fulltime babysitter. A kick in the @ss and a grow-up pill! LOL

Glad I am not in your position.......
