I was a Captain on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), which was launched on Oct. 11, 1975. Cool ship that has two nuclear reactors that can provide energy for more than 18 years of operation without refueling and can furnish power to propel the ship in excess of 30 knots!

Anyway, I flew the The F-14A Tomcat (my first Cat), which is a twin seat, twin engined interceptor, also capable of air-to-air, air-to-ground and reconnaisance roles.

I was the pilot in front while my long time high school buddy was my RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) who sat in back. My handle you ask? It was "Catman."

Weapons carried were the AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow, AIM-54 Phoenix, M61A1 20mm vulcan cannon, Mk80 series bombs, training bombs, Mk20 cluster bombs, sea mines and Laser Guided Bombs (LGB's).

I was called back into service during the 1991 Desert Storm war to direct the pilots on the exact same ship I started on, (USS Dwight D. Eisenhower). Since I was involved in training at Top Gun (The Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center Fallon, NV) in the early eighties, they needed me back. No I didn't smoke a cigar like the Lt. Commander did in the briefing room in the movie "Top Gun."

As you all know, I've had shock treatments in the last three years and I think I'm a pilot ever since. I've never been in the service and since this is in the trash board, I thought I'd put my bullsh!t here. LOL!

Tomcat - Arctic Cat....what's the difference? They're both fast!!

Hey Ed,

Naw, I just like to read on jets through anything that has an article on them. Or just surfing the Net.

I've been a plane freak all my life and always wanted to be a pilot. I watch a lot of the "History Channel" on cabel TV too.

I never got drafted since the Vietnam War ended the year I graduated from high school (1975). And the next war "Desert Storm," I was too old for duty then. I was around 34 at the time of that war.

I just ended up a college boy for 4 years after high school, and I just keep dreaming of being a fighter pilot. I guess I'll never grow up.

Thanks again for the truck pictures you sent. "Purrrrdy nice!!"

You ought to see if The Discovery WINGS channel is available thru your TV service provider, great programming if you're a plane nut.
