Gordon does have the best team. But he isnt the best driver or he would race IROC. Has he ever won a IROC race? Martin and Earnhardt always dominated. He is ok but not the best.

He did race IROC but chose not to this year because he is a co-owner of Jimmie Johnson's team. However, you are right he never won the Iroc cahmpionship - its only 4 races a year though - nothing worth judging a great driver though. You can not argue that he is not the best Driver out there today - you can say others might be equal - but you can't put anyone above him. I imagine I don't have to back that up with stats - if I did then you haven't been a Nascar fan for long.
Recently I was asked to play in a golf tournament.

At first I said, "Naw, I haven't been playing that well."

Then they said to me, "Come on, it's for handicapped and blind kids."

Then I thought...

EARNHARDT JUNIOR BABY!!! Best d**n driver out there, lol. Im a die-hard earnhardt fan. His daddy may have died but he's following right in his footsteps. I think all the rest of the drivers on the field (especially gordon) better turn it up a notch or they'll be following the #8 Bud car around the track all the time.
Whether its dirt, snow or grass... the Cat still kicks ass!!!

Been a Fan since 1987 how about you kenlacy? You said he is the best.I said he had the best team. How many busch races did he win before Winston Cup? Not to many. He doesnt like IROC because the cars are equal. Davey Allison #28 Fan For Life

listen to catnowdoo- he knows what he's talking about. I'm not going to deny that Gordon dosen't have a good team, but a few good stats dosen't automatically make you a great driver! You can argue til you're blue in the face and it still won't change anything. Martin ruled in Busch and IROC because HE IS A GREAT DRIVER!

I was impressed by Harvick. I'm sure he was upset, but he kept his cool. The only reason he even said anything about Gordon, is because the guy interviewing him pressed the issue to get a rise out of him.

I think that Junior has the makings of a great driver- but he has a lot to learn before he ever gets to be as good as his Father.
And Harvick. He is trying way to hard to replace the #3. He needs to start looking for the right time to make his moves. He keeps pressing the issue all the time like he does, he is gonna end up wrecking someone or pissing the right person off and regreting it.

I have been a fance since 1990 - you got me there - however - as for busch - he only raced 2 years full time - winning the rookie of the year his first year and setting the record for most poles (11) in his second. After that he was too good for a team not to run him full time Winston Cup - that is what we are talking about right? Winston Cup? That is the truest judge of a driver that is out there - if you are basing your argument on 4 races a year - that is pretty thin. I mean, you don't just get to be a Winston Cup driver unless you pretty much excelled in every other form of racing you competed in.

I can understand you talking up Martin for Busch but Winston Cup cmon. He only started full time in Winston cup 5 years before Gordon - it is not even close in comparison. I like Mark - he has character, he has been a solid driver while just missing out on a championship - he has around 30 wins in WC in 15 years where Gordon has almost 60 wins in 10 years and 4 champiosnhips - thats not just stats - that is what great drivers are guaged by (well, also by comparing to Dale).

I do recognize that the team makes a huge difference also - but to say whether it is more the team or more the driver is a whole other argument in itself. Neither would do well if the other was not top notch.
