500cc MAX rule for 2005 Enduro Racing

What do you think about a 500cc max rule for 2005 ? This would be for Enduro Racing only . I'm looking for any opinion & everyone has one . There is no right or wrong reply on this subject .

I feel going with the 500cc max rule will help slow down the sleds enough to get racing back to racing instead of drag racing to the corner just to see if you can hang on . I think ALL SLED MAKES built a 500cc

Sounds good to me. Look at champ 440 in oval sprint, they put on a great show and 500cc sleds should be plenty fast to do the same.

What about just keeping the sleds STOCK??? allowing NO! eng. mods. lets see what the real life sled you or me can buy, can do!

I don't think it will make any difference, put a radar gun and a stopwatch on the stock sprint sleds and then check the mods and you'll find lap times and straightaway speeds within a few tenths and 1 or 2 mph. Running stock 500's would make enduro racing much cheaper and possibly get more teams to race on sunday.

I like the stock 600 rule. It would mean a full field almost every sunday, the Yamahas could still run, in stock form, and like it was said earlier the people can see what they can buy. The thought of the quieter sleds does put a lump in my throat, theres nothing like a mod 600 polaris tripple or the crotch rocket sound of the RX-1. It would be a lot cheaper. I think we (MIRA) needs to allow the same suspension rules wsa and ussa allow, instead of the imp. stock class.

500cc limit would make it cheaper, but it would also encourage less expierenced riders into the race which can make it more dangerous. A 500 would have climb that bank just as easy as a mod 600. And a 500 won't drop the speeds enough where the pits are on the back stretch.

The question I have is if they drop it to 500cc max and there is a fatal accident next year, are we going to try to drop it again? Where is the end of this? 340cc max?

My personal feeling is that there should be a 100 lap Rookie Race on Friday along with the Vintage and Seniors races. This would give first time racers at the Soo a chance to put a few miles under thier belt before they race a 500 miler.

Changing to the 500 rule would cost alot of $$$$ for everyone...what is everyone going to do with their current sleds..not evey team can go out and but all new parts and set everthing up. Besides a person wanting to get started can usually buy teams used sled for $3000 to $3500 bucks and have a good piece of equiptment..that is part of the reason the chasis rule went to the wayside.

Matt, As I sit here watching the Cup race I think you are right. Any sled with a great top end would hurt someone. Years ago racing 250 mod sleds alot of time was so competative that you had your hands full with a tight field. It's a start though.

Engine size isn't the answer...it is still going to cost the same to field an enduro team for six to seven races a year. As far as slowing them down as someone posted earlier, there isn't enough difference in speed to make a rule change justified. I would not be in agreement to any rule that eliminates a brand from competion...I like the idea of MIRA having all four Brands racing.
