Yes they did, and it was always caused a huge conflict within the organization. As it was told to me, the group that pushed for it back then, is now the same group that has abolished it.
Could the reason be that they don't have any family or friends racing in those classes anymore and also have a financial stake in the circuit?

Very nicely put Shanky you hit that one right on the head. I Also heard one of the family vehicles worth 60grand is payed by the circuit that requires it 8 times per year.

From my understanding, the manufacturers were going to pull the contingency money if they continued to pay sport and junior riders. We raced in 4 different curcuits last year and none of them payout sport or junior. In the NWRA what some of the individual race sites did was set up a dash for cash in those classes.
