Elan air filter?

Postby badercarma » January 9th, 2003, 11:10 am

Hi, I just bought a 1971 Ski-Doo Elan 250e, the motor runs really good but I think its running to lean because it doesn't have an air filter (after riding it for a while it will bog down and die until it cools). The person I bought it from said it's not suppose to have an air filter but I don't think I believe him. Is there any place I could get an air filter or what should I do to fix this?

The elans did have an air breather, but did not have an actual air filter.Itwas only a silencer. 71' should have a tillotson carb.check your high and low speed jet settings, what are you mixing your fuel at,check heat range of spark plug, check ignition timing.Hope something helps.

Well I made a fourwheeler air filter fit it. It hasn't overheated but it still bogs when u give it gas, what should I set those screws at?

You should start at about 1and a half turns out and go from there. In for less fuel, out for more,Use a new spk plug, adjust,go for short hard run, check plug, repeat if needed.Plug should burn chocolate brown when working right.Patience is a virtue.
