Ignition "theory" question on 77 elan

I've been going over this elan checking for anything suspicious and I'm curious about the ignition components. Does this rotax use a sensing unit instead of points and then trigger spark from a CDI box mounted to the back of the motor? Also, is this a generator running through a voltage regular (found that on the frame) or is it an alternator being rectified to about 13V? I ask this because the headlight responds to RPM so I figured the electrics have no "storage" at all... not even from capacitance.

The headlight should respond to RPM up to about 2,000 RPM and then stop getting brighter as the voltage regulator begins to dump juice.
