have been busy, but getting a little time to put together my 76 340 starfire motor. polaris guys will know from the pt 06 casting that its the real deal. also a pic. from the polaris factory shop manual for the recommended rpm .[starfire 340 is at the bottom] thats spinnin' pretty good for a factory poo.

i always liked those motors. especially the short flat intake mounts great for grafting some reed cages onto should you be so inclined. i dont like chrome bores though.

i know what you mean about the chrome bores. these weren't too bad,i made a few passes with my sunnen hone with 400 grit stones and they cleaned up pretty good. i don't know what it is about polaris chrome bores, but i have tore down alot of tx's that had considerable scoring and they were still reading 125lbs. on my snap on comp. gauge. on my srx's,it seems like if they get 1 little scratch the compression goes in the shltter. i have the heads on this one now and she reads 165 lbs. both sides so it's healthy.

165lbs? Is that a "wet" reading? Or has the head been cut on that. I had a 76 Starfire and it had nothing like that for compression. Ran on pump gas just fine...the thing was actually pretty tame for a "racer". (tx with a handlebar loop!) I'm sure the -06 Motor had a little more umph than the TX. Just curious.....Nice lookin' engine
