ZR 900 or RX-1 Warrior

Postby melonhead » March 21st, 2003, 7:11 am

I have chance to get a 2004 ZR 900 with sno pro suspension,or for the same price, a 2004 RX-1 Warrior which has electric start and reverse.

Can someone with knowledge on these machines steer me in the right direction.

My buddies just bough the ZR 900's.

Thanks.

ZR 900, I don't you won't be as happy with a RX 1 because they are so heavy. The ZR chassis has been perfected and with the diamond direct drive, wieghs ~509 lbs, that's less than my ZL 500 EFI ESR!!!!!

Get a the CAT I`d hate to see anyone on a yamaha! Besides you`ll have better suspension, handling on a lighter sled. not to mention a better all around sled.

What???...Youre gonna take the word of a couple Cat guys????....my advise is..to ride them both and then pick the one you like best.....the Rx-1 is greatly improved over last year and the Rx-1 Warrior is getting great reviews for it's ride and handling....you should find a way to ride both...who cares how heavy something is...you're a big fellow...I don't think you'd have any problem throwing a Warrior around...I am 70 pounds lighter than you and had no trouble on an RX-1.

The 900 is a nice engine and sled, but at this point there isn't much information on how well the RMI drive is going to work. I'm a little bit leery of new stuff until it's been out and tested in the real world for a while. I think I would rather have a 2003 900 and run a setup that is well known and easy to setup. Just my 02.
If you are in the ditch, upside down, and the sled's on top of you, you are doing something wrong.....

Yes, that makes sense. I am just concerned about the big bumps. I heard the rx-1 rear suspension was not that great, but like you said, they have made a bunch of improvements including the rear suspension.

Thanks for your input.

Well ... the ZR 900 weighs approx 80-100lbs less ... and develops more horsepower. Even filled with all fluids (The ZR holds more fuel) the difference in weight is still the same.

If you are concerned with electric start and reverse, then buy a 2003 leftover and have them put on.

Don't get me wrong ... the RX-1 is a decent sled for smooth trail riding... I have done about 200 miles on one. But for anything else, the suspsnsion is VERY difficult to dial in, and is inferior to the ZR skid. The RX-1 performance reminds me of a beefed up ZRT 600. About the same weight to horsepower ratio.

If you read the freaking title, he's looking at the ZR 900 and the RX-1. So suggesting a Polaris is a real meaningless comment. If you can't contribute meaningfully to the debate, keep your fingers off the keyboard little one.
