Hey guys, I am a first time user in this forum and still learning how this works so bare with me. I have been riding since I was 6 or 7, but always had older sleds '89's or 90's. I just recently picked up a '01 Yamaha Sx 700R with 190 miles on it from original owner. Need to know what this sled hp is rated at. Have been looking and can not find it anywhere. My buddy just picked up a '98 Ski-Doo 670 H.O. with 3200 miles on it and heard it puts out 117 ponies is this true, and do you think the yamaha has any chance of competing with the doo.

it puts out about 110-115, and that's about it. It will not keep up with most 600's out there so "NO" the doo will beat it. What you do have is a great trail sled that handles perfectly. There really isnt' a sled out there IMO that can work the trails like this sled. It doesn't need all the speed, cuz thru the trails you will keep up just fine or be ahead of anything out there. Just run and hide on the lakes.

He's right it's right about 110hp which is fine the sx700r is one of my favorite sleds. It's not going to be the fastest, and the Doos really are quick, but I personally don't like the handling on those Skidoos. Your Yamaha cna tear it apart. I think you'll love that sled.

First of all, there's no such thing as a '98 670HO, so either he's mistaken, or dropped a 99 motor in a 98 chassis. The 670HO was only made in 1999, output was 117 HP. The motor & clutches were tweaked pretty well from the factory, so aftermarket stuff didn't gain you that much (at least like on other sleds..).

Sorry, I had that wrong. I found my trusty old copy of american snowmobiler with the HP ratings. 1993 670's were 119 hp, 1995 670's (w/ twin pipes) were 122hp, and the 1999 670 HO was 129hp. That's stock, out of the box, no mods, etc.

129 ponies for a '98 Formula Z 670, huh, I don't think I will be that with my '01 Sx 700R stock, have planned to some mods, but not sure what I want to do yet. Pipes and head gasket for sure. 129 ponies damn, I might have to sell my sled and I have not even rode it yet, thats going to tuff to beat.

Unfortuanley no SNOW yet, spitted some on saturday which got me all excited.

there is a big difference between an 670 HO, and a 670 formula....which is it???.....if you clutch, do the head gasket mod, and add reed spacers, transfer rods and studs you'll have no problem with a 670 formula....the HO you will need pipes to beat it...I don't think you'll beat an HO with just clutching and minor mods...a well set-up HO gave my Viper a hard time.

Formula 670 is about 120 HP...and alot heavier..due to the swing arm rear skid...the HO is lighter, and has alot more HP 127...the formula III 700 triple had 129 HP

I asked him, it is a Formula Z 670, I don't know where I got the H.O. If I don't do those mods, will I be able to hang with him, I should be able to beat him through the trails, just on the way 700 will handle. I have read and heard that ski-doo's don't handle that well.
