Sportsman 600 Q?

Postby lerch23 » January 29th, 2006, 5:11 pm

I think the rules in the sportsman 600 class will allow a 99 modle year sled. And every year on it will go up a year. I have a 98 Arctic cat sno-pro 440, will this sled be competitive agenst those running 600 tripples? What do those of you think who are in the class now?....thanks...Kyle

hey kyle im sure the sportsman 600 and sportsman 800 class is for 90 to 95 production sleds ... if u checked it all out tho i think that 440 should keep up but u never no ... i guess its worth a try ... my dad just ran in that class back in december and there was a 580 in there against his xcr 600 tripple and they were pretty much the same pace except that he had some engine problems so it wasnt goin so well but i have heard that them snowpro 440s are fast

USSA the rules allow for up to a 98 model year .It goes up a year, every new season. It should be competitive if you put pipes on it and get the thing dialed in.Should corner better than the triples.Don't know about straight away speed?

SAW A GUY RUNNING A 600 ZRT SATURDAY AT WAUSAU, HE SURE HAD THAT SLED DIALED IN. A 440 WITH THE RIGHT SET UP WOULD BE COMPETITIVE CHECK WITH HOOPER I AM SURE HE CAN GET YOU SET IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH PIPES

That sno-pro is real snappy and quick to get up to that 80-85 mph mark, prolly ALOT lighter than that ZRT. And I bet it wouls corner well. I never set up an oval sled before, Ill deffinetly need some help.

I THINK YOUR RIGHT. THAT ZRT AMAZED ME. I HAVE RODE THEM ON THE TRAIL AND THE ONLY THING THAT COMES TO MIND IS "TANK". I WAS IN CORNER 3 AND THAT THING WAS DIALED

What kind of speeds are the sportsman sleds reaching? I really dont think you would need a 600 tripple to be competitive.Look at stock 600, alot 440 IQ's sno-pros and REV's in that class.

I think the problem with the 440s would be that nobody like SLP,PSI Hot Seat made aftermarket pipes for them. You would have to get a custom set made by somebody like Rugland, Jaws etc which is big $$$$. I guess you could probably find an old used set of race pipes, but theyre made to run higher RPMS with higher compression and porting. A 98 XC 600 with SLPs would be my choice for the class if I was racing one. If I can find a cheap one, I might run one next year. Wish there was payout for the class though.

Since your close to Mike Weindandt(right up the road).I would talk to him.He can put it on the dyno and come up with pipes that will work and all the other things you'll need to know(i.e.-jetting,pilot jet, jet needle, slide cut away, etc). He's damn good at it! I'm sure Hooper could help as well.Jim Stabe #85 has been running a zr 580 EFI that kicked my butt quite a few times.Well, he kicked everybody's butt for awhile. Now everyone has upped the anty as they say!!!!(thats why eveyrone is running triples) The EFI's has some BIG holes in it for air !!!lol 45mm?? plus something Jim and i talked about. The EFI's don't take as long to digest the air fuel mixture. It responds fast!! I would think the zr 440 would work well.Light, responsive and of course FAST!!
speeds?? depends on the track! My 95 xcr was geared at Antigo for 92 mph.Probably didn't hit that ,but it pulled hard all the way to the end of the straightaway.
