Twin Trackers...?

At first everyone ran a 340 liquid rotax engine in the twin tracks. Later they moved to a 440 liquid for power. By ISR rules they would be illegal to race as they ran two narrow cleated tracks. Only one manufacture seemed to have any interest in the class, and it went by the wayside. To me nothing was more exciting to watch when over 40 of these machines would show up in Eagle River for the Worlds Championship.

I belive they were all ski-doo's?...were they close to power and performance to a 440 champ? What was the cost of one of these compaired to a champ of today?

Ski-Doo last built twin-track sleds in a 1989. They cost around 12,500.00 US. Ski-Doo used to build from 12 to 15 sleds every other year starting in 1983 for the Canadian and US racers. They ran 340 motors with big carbs. Racing needs new equipment produced in limited numbers every other year, preferably some of these sleds made by the manufactures for racing to grow. David

The last year I ran a Twin Track was in 1996 it had a 500 Yamaha twin motor in it with 36mm carbs. The last year the Twin Tracks were the W.C. class was in 1997. The Champ sleds took over in 1998 as the W.C. class. I believe that the track record at E.R. is still held by a Twin Track drove by Dave Wahl back in 1993 or so I think it was something in the high 35's for two laps.

I have good memories of the Houle/Decker (single track vs twintracker) race on friday nite thunder...that was the most exciting race I have ever watched...houle won the 5 laps(I think)race.

I still own a 1989 twin tracker with a 700 triple in it that we used to race in MIRA...sad day when the insurance companies band the cleated tracks

I was hit by one in Kitty Cat racing! I think it hurt then at 25mph, I bet at 100mph it would be worse.
